between 2009 and 2010 I did an artistic residency at ZDB Gallery in Lisbon (a nonprofit association). The Butterfly Hunter is the result of those two years of work.

'Whenever I travelled through the highway from Oporto to Lisbon, I would always notice a small landscape detail from the right window of my car. It's a kind of throat, just before entering Lisbon. If you're driving at 120 km/h, you can see it for about 21 seconds. When the Sun is at a certain height, a huge shadow takes hold of that place, just before dusk. It's as if the night got there first.'

Untitled » 2010 » Wood and plaster » 54x40x28 cm

I found this object during the fieldwork for this projects I was very curious with its ambiguous shape and its unknown origin and, therefore, decided to include it in the project.

21 Seconds » 2010 » Video projection » DV Pall » 4:3» Color, Sound » 28’ » Variable dimensions

For this video I worked with an image file of a closed industrial site thousands of images representing more than one hundred years of history. I shot the suburbs of the capital Lisbon, where once stood the industrial area and used written interviews to people who have lived and worked there.

Here the Night Comes First » 2009/2010 » Video for monitor » DV Pall » 4:3 » Color » Mute » 11’30’’.

This video is a mapping from a river. I used an underwater camera and filmed the river from its source to its mouth. There are ten shots that correspond to ten different geographical points. This structure makes reference to the classic structure of Luís Vaz de Camões’ “Os Lusíadas”.

The Composer »  2009/2010 » Panel of 30 photos » Images combined with drawings from the Documentation Archive Center of the Ceramics Museum, Sacavém, Lisbon district » 436 x 177 cm

This piece is the result of a free association between drawings of the first half of XX century from the files of the Documentation Archive Center of the Ceramics Museum in Sacavém, Lisbon, with photographic images of a post-industrial landscape from that same region.

Ilha do Tesouro » 2010 » Video projection synchronized with slide projection and sound » 8` 9`` » sound by  Felipe  Felizardo » Variable dimensions.

Untitle » 2009/2010 » 60 objects molded and sculpted with mud from a river, Lisbon district. Variable dimensions

For this piece I worked with the mud of a riverbed, long dead. I discovered sculptural qualities in this ephemeral matter. For months I have learned how to work with it and reproduced objects from my studio, working tools and other things of everyday life.

Argant » 2010 » Video projection: HD, Color, Mute, 6’12’’ »  36 x 48 cm
The title of this piece comes from the word “garganta” (throat). Objects are treated as sculptural mass. For Georges Bataille the “informe” is the first moment which defines what was rejected and excluded from Western metaphysics. The indefinable, an anti-concept, not so much a theme but more a substance.

Untitled » 2009/2010 » Slide projection on an object (branch) » Variable dimensions

There are experiences with the landscape that reproduce a resonance.
